How long have you worked for Wales Air Ambulance?
Since October 2017
Why did you choose to work for the Charity?
Having started out with the charity as a Volunteer, I could see how friendly and helpful all the staff were. It was also evident that it was a great environment to work in. This, together with the knowledge that by working for the charity I would play a part in saving the lives of the people of Wales, made me determined that I wanted to work for Wales Air Ambulance
What does your job entail/ what are you responsible for?
I am the first point of contact for the Charity, whether it speaking to the public, assisting with deliveries, or greeting visitors. I help to organise volunteers to attend events, talks, pick up collection boxes etc and I am responsible for banking cash/collection boxes. I also help other members of staff with tasks such as printing, sending out items (could include leaflets/posters etc) and am responsible for essential administrative maintenance as well as carrying out a weekly fire alarm test.
What’s your favourite part of your job?
I enjoy interacting and assisting members of the public. Whether this is anyone who donates to us, queries relating to our lottery department through to anyone simply asking for directions to somewhere. It gives me great pleasure being able to assist in any way that I can. Also, I like how varied the role is and I get involved in a variety of different tasks, which makes the role both interesting and enjoyable.
What are you most proud of in your career so far?
I am most proud of being given the opportunity to assist with the Charity’s lottery. It raises a lot of the vital funds to keep the aircraft operational and to be a part of this department definitely makes me feel very proud.
What makes your job so rewarding?
I enjoy dealing with members of the public, whether this is face to face, over the phone or via email. It is very interesting seeing and hearing the many varied ways people raise money for the charity through their fundraising efforts.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself
I have an interest in all things transport related but more specifically in trains. This interest started with my late grandfather, who was also interested; he used to work on the railway. I enjoy photographing trains and enjoy model railways as well.
If you weren’t doing the job you are doing, what would you do (this can be a fantasy job!)
I enjoy photography, so I would consider being a photographer.
